American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) collaborated with five Indian Furniture Designers. The project challenges the leading designer-makers to each select three pieces from their existing furniture range and to remake them using American hardwoods. REMAKE was conceived as a response to the need for hands-on experience with American hardwoods in India’s furniture manufacturing sector. The designers involved with the project include Studio Wood, Bram Woodcrafting Studio, Kam Ce Kam, Esvee Atelier and Studio SFDW. In response to the brief, the designers have been asked to choose three of their own existing pieces and remake them using American red oak, white oak, cherry, hard maple, tulipwood or hickory.
Bram Woodcrafting Studio (BWS)
BWS is a company with mixed principles, generations, culture and of course a strong language barrier that is bridged by a shared enthusiasm in the field of design and products. Bram Rouws, has acquired his outstanding professional experience of designing tailor-made furniture by working in different artistic environments. Due to his activity as a Designer and trainer in carpentry, he and his team have the experience to offer you ornamental, contemporary design, as well as the restoration of antique furniture.
Kam Ce Kam
Kam Ce Kam is a furniture and interiors brand born from a passion for innovative design conceived through traditional methods of manufacturing. From the material to the making, the story is one of passion and integrity, coupled with a genuine desire to revive the heritage of Indian craft; in a considered, conscious and contemporary manner. Founder of the brand and designer of the launch collection, Jehanara Knowles, grew up between New Delhi and London, fuelling her passion for the fusion of tradition in her early years.
Esvee Atelier
Esvee Atelier was established in 2018 by trained Furniture Designer Srikanth Varma, with the aim to create furniture that would celebrate design and be cherished by the users. Esvee products are characterized by an elegant aesthetic; the result of uncompromised attention to detail and an intense dedication to design, material, craft, and process.
SFDW
Started in 2014, SAIF FAISAL design workshop is a multidisciplinary creative studio. With an ‘ESSENTIALIST’ approach the focus is always to be sensitive, thoughtful and meaningful. Believing in sustainable aesthetics and longevity in terms of use and relevance in time and space. Their solutions aspire to simplicity, substance, timelessness and beauty; poetic expression is as significant as the functional attributes The work celebrates natural materials with values of frugality that are deep rooted in Oriental culture.
Studio Wood
Founded in 2014 by three design aficionados Navya Aggarwal, Sahej Bhatia and Vrinda Mathur, Studio Wood is a boutique agency designing furniture for the young (at heart) and the restless. The collective is best known for its ‘in the moment’ aesthetic and ingenious quirks. Bestowed with the title of ‘India’s Best Young Design Studio’ the firm has not only received recognition nationally, but at international platforms too, such as Wanted Design – New York, Salone Del Mobile – Milan, Archdaily, Archello, Architectural Digest and more.
