The iMaestri collection has a fascinating story to narrate. Probably one filled with bold design, thick processes, and unending realms of creativity. Likewise, the collection bore the seeds of Italian luxury furniture. It marked a significant milestone in the world of Italian design. And this year, the collection celebrates 50 years of existence. Its 50th anniversary marks the unwavering elegance of modern Italian furniture.
Cassina released the collection in 1973. Although, the process for iMaestri started long back in 1965. The collection of Italian design furniture featured revolutionary pieces. The major aim was to support Italian design icons. Furthermore, it focused on designs that were contemporary yet rich in culture.
Therefore, it started with the mass production of works by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. In addition, it included Italian design classics like Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Franco Albini, etc. And this year it marks its golden anniversary. Therefore, new products, lighting, etc., are included.
The New Releases of the iMaestri Collection:
There are a few new additions to the collection to mark the 50th anniversary. This includes an elegant wooden chair designed by Gio Ponti in 1960. The iconic chair was made for the Parco dei Principi hotel in Rome. The chair is the epitome of Italian design culture. With an open-pore ash frame and a diamond-shaped backrest, it’s a perfect inclusion.
Furthermore, a contemporary version of the Doge Table is included in the collection. The remarkable table was designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1968. The limited edition is crafted in collaboration with his son, Tobia Scarpa. The functional piece consists of a glass top and a sculptural steel base.
Lastly, the functional Maralunga sofa joined the collection. The product also celebrates its golden anniversary. Likewise, the sofa is released in an exclusive edition that features red leather. The color red holds the highest importance in Italian design culture.
The firm also anticipates the launch of lighting by Charles and Ray Eames in 2024. Moreover, to mark its 50th anniversary, the Italian design furniture brand held an exhibition. ‘Echoes, 50 years of iMaestri’ was an exhibition held to showcase their evolution.
