Crafting A Dramatic Glass Sculpture For The Dramatic Dalmore

Glass Sculpture

The legendary architect, Melodie Leung designed a splendid Glass Sculpture and a collectible presentation for the whiskey distillery, the Dalmore. The fantastic treasures are an ode to her architectural legacy and Dalmore’s whiskey classics.

The Glass Sculpture stands as a phenomenal collaboration between three great individuals. These include Melodie Leung, Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, Gregg Glass, Master Whisky Maker at The Dalmore, and Master Distiller Richard Paterson OBE. Apart from designing the case for The Rare, the team has also come up with a packaging design for the 16-year-old Dalmore Luminary – The Collectible – 2024 Edition. The Dalmore Luminary – The Rare – 2024 Edition will be presented at auction to Scotland’s design museum- V&A Dundee. On the other hand, The Dalmore Luminary – The Collectible- 2024 Edition will be offered at luxury retailers globally from 2nd April 2024.

Their exclusive collaboration has led to a dynamic form creation that narrates the styles of Zaha Hadid Architects and Dalmore. The abstract structure enlivens a fusion of whiskey and architectural elements.

The Rare With Its Enduring Glass Sculpture:

Glass Sculpture

The Glass Sculpture of The Rare has a vivid narrative behind its making. This second chapter was made with a vision to capture the flowing nature of whiskey. The swirl pattern of the liquid, its enchanting spell, is cast unforgettably in the Glass Sculpture. “I imagined all of the different movements that happened over the years, the elements layering on top of one another to create the whisky blend, and decided that I wanted to create a sculpture and a design that was reflective of this swirling, ever-moving, and always fascinating process,” explains Leung.

The first complete The Rare set will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in May and the second full set will be exhibited at The Dalmore’s Highlands distillery. While the third bottle is being reserved for the entire Luminaries series. Dalmore then worked extensively with Fiaz Elson from the Glass Foundry- one of the most excellent master glass artists. The flowy Glass Sculpture was placed in the kiln for almost 12 weeks. Its initial molding was crafted at 890 degrees, continuously for 15 hours.

The temperature was reduced gradually by one degree per day to handle the material until it reached a subtle room temperature. The Glass Sculpture, weighing 80 kilograms was then taken to the next process of polishing. In this constraining process of 500 hours, the sculpture was fine-polished till it received a liquid texture and glossy finish. At the end of remarkable ideation and the carefully controlled process, there was a masterpiece, a magnificent installation.

Speaking further, the 49 year old Highland Single Malt that it holds is now curated with more luxurious elements. With layers of intense vanilla, dark berry fruit and cacao aromas, roasted chestnuts, blackcurrant, Doyenne pears and soft patisserie spices, The Rare stands as one of the most timeless drinks ever.

The Everlasting Essence Of The Collectible:

The Collectible presentation portrays a much sophisticated, ruled way of holding rare liquids from the brand. It carries a small amount of exceptionally rare peated Dalmore Spirit. Additionally, the ethereal packaging matches the aesthetics of The Rare’s Glass Sculpture. While its deep copper shades speak of the whiskey’s rich hues, continuing the legendary legacy.

The Dalmore Luminary has not only spoken of its unmatched tastes. Yet also, through its Glass Sculpture and packaging, it has proved how different talents can mingle to create a world we have never experienced before.
