Norman Mooney has been long known for his installations and out-of-the-world works. And yet again, it’s time to commemorate the debut of Norman Mooney’s sculptures- Windseeds and Butterfly Effect, to China, at the Guangdong Nanhai Art Festival, which can be viewed from November 18th, 2022 to February 19th, 2023. The Guangdong Nanhai Art Festival is an international cultural festival, that invites countries to perform their arts, initiating a sense of respect and depth towards the culture of other nations. Similarly, let’s see how Norman Mooney has extended a piece of his mind and heart through his installations in the art field:
What is in a slice of wood? A broken seed dream, or an element for the wasteland? Perhaps, Norman Mooney aimed for its textured beauty, its extraordinary curvatures, and the potential of an artwork. Slicing such curves out of apple plywood, Norman Mooney chiseled an ethereal butterfly, a symbol of rebirth and untouched magic.
Botanic Art Festival Beauty
The Butterfly Effect installation in the botanic garden, has 12 wings carved out of the laminated plywood joined to a cylinder body, together creating a parallel world’s beauty- an unimaginable dream. It also reminds us of its reference to the Lorenzo attractor, a concept that explains how a system of simple flow is backed by complex equations. The installation projects floaty reflections and shadows, as if showcasing the intricacy through the silhouettes.
Whimsical Dreams in Stainless Steel
The other installation Windseeds No.3, is yet another piece of artwork- so strange but still so familiar to the heart. Windseeds squeezes its inspirations from the wish-like dandelions, standing with a height of 12 ft, captivating a million dreams. It comprises angular spikes, bursting out of its core, which in turn is a convex polyhedron. The spikes are rounded at the edges, to make them harmless. The stainless steel body and a white pigment give it a heavenly look, uprising a peace that we all keep looking for. The Nanhai Art Festival, in the southeastern town of China, Foshan, is an ecological art compound, built to embrace eco-awareness, and local lifestyles, celebrating the talents of numerous artists, architects, musicians, dancers, etc.
Being a part of the art field, Norman Mooney has proved his style of recognizing simplicity in nature. Based in NYC, Norman is an epitome in making sculptures, interior and exterior installations, and work on paper, amalgamating metaphysical and physical elements. With the Windseeds and Butterfly Effect, Norman pulls us towards a soothing piece in which dwells imagination but calmness.
