This Holiday Home in Pune is an ode to Indian Traditional Beauty

Holiday Home

The BODHI Holiday Home in Pune is more than just a retreat. Ask the homeowners and they will tell you how it was a piece of their precious memories. Constructed and designed by the luxury design firm, Interiors by Mili, BODHI is a state-of-the-art. You enter it and you will feel as if each furniture piece has the power to whisper. And we tested ourselves whether we had the power to listen to them.

The Holiday Home came into existence due to the homeowners’ playful nostalgia. The story goes on to the recent time when the homeowners visited their hometown in Patan. The beautiful 100-year-old ancestral home where they spent years of childhood was a masterpiece. Yet this masterpiece was about to be demolished. Hence to save the ethnic home design, the members carried ancient elements to space in their new Holiday Home in Pune.

After returning, the homeowners went to Interiors by Mili, asking them to create a neutral space. Based in Mumbai, they initially thought of creating a home just for recreational purposes. Turns out, their ancestors had something different for them. “This project was surprising at every turn for me and the clients as well. It was designed ‘on the go’. There were no planned looks, no 3D renders”, Mili Shah Savekar, the Principal
Designer confessed.

Layer by layer, the home was built with new life for the homeowners’ memories. And this led to the 1600 square feet Holiday Home, proudly named ‘BODHI- The Row House’.

An Infusion of The Past

To build the perfect retro-contemporary decor, the designers took a step. They paved their way to Patan to analyze what they could carry back. This led them to salvage a set of wooden columns, a pair of short carved pillars, and a pair of wooden doors. Old cupboards and the main door were refurbished for aesthetic appeal. Lastly, a trip to Mumbai’s Chor Bazaar gave their bucket list a green tick.

An Elegant Layout

The layout for these cultural-inspired interiors was kept rudimentary. This means that the mother’s bedroom, kitchen, and living room were on the ground floor. While the other two bedrooms were on the top floor. Additionally, the concept of the dining room was replaced with a simple breakfast table in the kitchen.

Inclusions of Traditional Magic

The Holiday Home was built to carry traditional crafts in its decor. Dark wood, veneer finishes, and incredible colors take over the home’s beauty.
One of the major examples was the usage of yellow Jaisalmer stone for flooring. “The decision to use yellow Jaisalmer stone all over the floor of the house added such a strong color and set the tone for everything else. Surprisingly, it is also such a versatile color as everything works so well with it,” Mili Savekar reveals.

The Holiday Home came out as the epitome of peaceful sanctuary design. Interiors by Mili polished old memories and built a space to welcome the new ones.
