Katana and Frame: the Ghidini1961 sofas arise from the purity of graphic sign
This is the graphic sign reprised by designer Paolo Rizzatto in the Katana sofa whose leg, with elliptic section, has been thought and calibrated like the blade of the famous sword. Also, the proportions of the compositional elements, the ratio between the seat and the structure, the fittings and the lines, the grafts and the joints are studied in detail in order to obtain an embracing and comfortable harmony. Katana is the name of the Japanese sword with the curved blade used by Samurai.
Stefano Giovannoni designs Frame sofa: a multiaxial “joint” merges rounded extruded profiles disposed in diagonal, generating a distinctive and characteristic element. Minimalist shapes, of an extreme formal cleanliness and lightness, but compact and strong. The numerous combinations generated from the interconnection of the knuckles create the supporting structures of the sofa. This works as a frame for the leather panels of seats, backrests and armrests. The parts in leather are embellished with on-sight stitching. Wide fabric pillows complete the set.

Ghidini1961 a new design brand created in 2016 under the art direction of Stefano Giovannoni, who has put together a diversified creative team able to enhance the properties of brass, a valued material which features golden tones and reflections, pleasant to the touch for its warm and velvety surface, and so far unjustly disregarded by contemporary design. The collection comprises works of art, where brass acquires an almost sculptural power, finely chiselled table accessories, bearing witness to Ghidini’s obsession for details.
The entire production cycle takes place in-house and is characterised by a meticulous attention to detail: from the idea to the end product, passing through the various processing stages – from pressure die casting to lost wax and gravity casting, from machining to drilling, from satin-finishing to sand-blasting and polishing.
