Rêve Rattan Redefining Sustainable Luxury
The name Rêve, which means “dream” in French, perfectly captures the brand’s goal of promoting sustainable living while honoring the craftsmanship of earlier times. “Rattan is not just a material—it’s an experience,” says M Preeth, the designer and promoter of Rêve Rattan. “Renowned for its strength, flexibility, and visual appeal, rattan has evolved from a simple resource to a key element in luxury interiors. A notable example, the Mosaic Chair, showcases this approach with its lively blend of four colors woven into a single eye-catching design. Dedicated to eco-friendliness, Rêve Rattan uses only rattan—a renewable and rapidly growing resource—making it a sustainable choice compared to conventional wood. The brand’s commitment to ethical sourcing and environmentally responsible practices is evident in every aspect of production, from dyeing to weaving.
A Legacy of Family Heritage
Rêve Rattan’s story is steeped in passion and perseverance, tracing its roots back to 1950 when Smt. Buri Bai founded the parent company, Sha Sivadanmull Kheemchand (SSK). Recognizing the untapped potential of rattan, she pioneered its introduction to the Indian market, establishing it as a valuable resource. Subsequent generations expanded its use by importing premium rattan varieties like Lunty, Tohiti, and Manau from Southeast Asia, elevating the material’s reputation in furniture design.
Under the stewardship of Mr. Ranjit Kumar, Mr. Manesh Kumar, Mr. Jagdish Kumar, and Mr. Praveen Kumar, SSK grew into a global exporter, supplying Indian rattan to markets in Albania, Dubai, and the Maldives. Today, the family’s fourth generation, led by M Preeth, carries forward this rich legacy through Rêve Rattan, striving to revive the art of high-quality rattan furniture and elevate its perception in the modern market.
With the Chennai studio as its foundation, Rêve Rattan has ambitious plans to expand across India and explore international markets. Future initiatives include participating in leading interior and architecture exhibitions and fostering global partnerships to showcase the timeless charm of rattan furniture.
The Chennai store is more than just a retail space—it’s an immersive experience that invites customers to engage with high-quality rattan craftsmanship. As Rêve Rattan looks to the future, it remains dedicated to reviving the rattan industry in India, one exquisite piece at a time.
