Tucked in the small lane off the upmarket St Mark’s Road in Bengaluru, Bastian Garden City is the latest jewel in the crown of the much-adored Mumbai-based celebrity restaurant chain. Co-founded by actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra, this is their third venture, and it doesn’t disappoint.
The moment you step into Bastian Garden City, you’re greeted by soaring ceilings and an ambiance that whispers understated luxury. The interiors, envisioned by the founder, Ranjit Bindra, and interior designer, Minal Chopra, are designed in a boho-chic theme. The muted palette of whites, blacks, and beiges is complemented by artistic touches—painted ceiling fans, ornate chandeliers, and arched dining spaces. The restaurant has two levels and an alfresco seating area nestled amidst a verdant green landscape to make the most of Bengaluru’s delightful weather.
Bastian’s exquisite culinary journey
Bastian’s menu is nothing short of extensive. From brunch and dinner to desserts and cocktails, there’s something for every palate. The chefs add a personal touch to your dining experience by visiting your table to explain the dishes and share their recommendations. Spoilt for choice with their American and Asian-inspired menu offering vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and gluten-free options, we decided to begin our meal with the Avocado Poke. This refreshing salad was the perfect introduction to the feast that followed. For taco lovers, the Veg Taco is a delightful medley of sweet corn, mushrooms, and jalapeño mayo, while the Grilled Chicken Taco pairs avocado mousse with pickled onions and a tangy red jalapeño salsa.
The menu is heaven for seafood enthusiasts. Our favorites were the Pan-Seared Snapper, a flavor-packed delight paired with caper lemon butter and kale, and the Spicy Crab Thermidor, a pulled mud crab served with béchamel, herbed breadcrumbs, and white truffle oil. And just when you think you’ve explored it all, you’ll discover a section dedicated to robata (fire cooking or grills), offering options like pork ribs, broccoli, lamb chops, and more. For a complete experience, we recommend pairing these with Burnt Garlic Fried Rice, Jasmine Rice, or Malaysian Noodles.
Bastian crafted cocktails and more
One of the big draws of the restaurant, however, is its extensive selection of drinks, cocktails, and mocktails. Don’t miss their clarified cocktail, Naked Piña which has Bacardi añejo cuatro infused with roasted coconut, almond liqueur, pineapple, and more, and the twisted negroni cocktail, Bella Negra which is coffee infused. And if you prefer staying sober then the refreshing Coriander Smash with lime and pineapple juice is a winner.
A sweet finale
Dessert here isn’t just a course; it’s an event. The Lotus Kunafa Cheesecake, with its crisp kataifi and dramatic liquid nitrogen finish, is a showstopper. Chocolate lovers will adore the Burnt Crack Cookie, a mix of gooey dark chocolate and hazelnut.
