The famous French sparkling water brand, Perrier, known for its iconic green bottle, has partnered with Philippe Starck, a renowned industrial designer, to reimagine its iconic packaging for its 160th anniversary.
Perrier’s recognizable bottle shape remains unchanged, ensuring it’s still instantly associated with the brand. However, Philippe Starck’s design draws inspiration from Fresnel lenses, introducing subtle horizontal streaks in the glass to refract light and add texture.
Unique Vision by Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck, renowned for designs like the Juicy Salif juicer for Alessi, views Perrier as a “globally recognized symbol and a monument of French heritage.” He emphasized the need to preserve the icon’s essence while incorporating modern elements. Starck achieved this through precise technical grooving, enhancing the bottle’s structure and creating an element of curiosity and artistry.
Exploring the Unknown with Philippe Starck
Starck added, “It’s not just about technique; it’s also about exploring the unknown.” He used the bubble structure within the bottle as a magnifying glass to create a Fresnel lens, infusing wonder and imagination into an everyday object.
This collaboration marks a significant departure for Perrier. While the brand previously sought creative input from various artists, including Takashi Murakami and street artists JonOne, Kobra, and Sasu, it’s the first time a creative mind has been invited to redesign the bottle itself.
Global Debut of PERRIER + STARCK Bottles
The PERRIER + STARCK bottles are set for international release this month, offering a fresh, innovative take on the classic design and demonstrating the harmonious coexistence of innovation and tradition.
Perrier’s commitment to refreshing the palate and the visual experience is evident in this redesign. It reminds us that even the most iconic and timeless forms can be reshaped and reimagined without losing their essential identity.
Embracing the Future with a Nod to Tradition
As Perrier enthusiasts eagerly await the international release of the PERRIER + STARCK bottles, it’s evident that this collaboration not only celebrates the past but also embraces the future while staying true to its roots.
