For the collection, D/Vision, Ferruccio Laviani implements a process of decomposition and separation, on different levels. Starting from the trumeau – a fashionable item back in the 1950’s – Laviani redesigns its outline, making it an unexpected, surprising object, while still unveiling its original shape.
Fratelli Boffi previews D-Vision .3, the first of three versions from the collection of trumeaux, where this piece of furniture is literally split in two parts by an imaginary diagonal line. The upper part symbolically slides downwards to some sort of hold, modifying the original design. This duality also characterises the use of hues and finishes, contrasting the lacquering of the lower section and the crimped wood of the upper section. The design is further embellished by elegant details such as the brass ferrules and its oval mirror, hiding the shelves in the chest.
Precious materials, refined fabrics and the irony which has always been a typical feature of Fratelli Boffi. The 2017 collection once again, creates sophisticated and rational settings, presenting astonishingly new cutting-edge ideas.
An architect and designer, Ferruccio Laviani works with companies in both the furniture and the fashion industry, for whom beyond designing products, he also takes care of corporate identity and designs show-rooms across the world.
He is also in charge of artistic direction, communication, setting up exhibitions and events, always with a highly contemporary and recognisable style. He made his début in the world of lighting by designing the Orbital sculpture-lamp for Foscarini, an authentic icon of Italian design, together with his wall lamp version, Bit.
