Milburn Cherian presents her second solo exhibition in New Delhi titled Living between the Times 2020 showcasing 80 works which opens on 1 st March at Visual Arts Gallery. The exhibition – Living between the Times 2020 is a suite of captivating images that seem to bridge many gaps through the gospel and talk to us about the unity of man and his many ways. “In an otherwise photographically real world, painting to me is an expression of my way of seeing things,” says Milburn Cherian.
With no formal training in painting, this Mumbai born artist had to depend on her comprehensive communication course from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, for the basics of art and aesthetics. But before the NID course, she had done a course in textile history and design at the Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai, which she says, “Was my launching pad into the world of art.” She describes the process of painting as “I just paint”, and to realize that she has little awareness as to how the externalizing process of her complex inner world is achieved. Analysis is for the art critic. She herself is the medium for the production of authentic art.

Milburn’s second solo in New Delhi Living Between the Times 2020 is a suite of captivating images that seem to bridge many gaps through the gospel and talk to us about the unity of man and his many ways. She creates images of Biblical relevance and rustic idylls – the images are far from beautiful, but they reflect exquisite craftsmanship, that force us to change how we experience the perspectives we share in art. Each painting is like a lesson in art history conceived as sacred art, and the beautiful metaphor of the working spider takes on the appearance of a parable, says Uma Nair- art critic.
