LOEWE Brings Craft and Culture to Tokyo with a Striking New Exhibition.

LOEWE

LOEWE brings its Crafted World exhibition to Tokyo, taking over a striking space near Harajuku Station. Open until May 11, the experience offers a quiet, thoughtful pause from the rush of the city. Every corner is filled with textures, colours, and details that reflect the Spanish house’s long-standing connection with handcraft and material.

Step Inside LOEWE’s Immersive Tokyo Experience

LOEWE

Designed in partnership with OMA AMO, the space covers over 1,300 square meters and moves through a sequence of rooms. Each room holds a different chapter in LOEWE’s history, beginning with its roots as a leather studio in Madrid in 1846. The Tokyo stop feels especially meaningful since Japan was the first country the brand entered beyond Europe.

One room brings the LOEWE workshop to life. You can watch how their iconic bags come together, starting with leather selection and ending with precise hand assembly. There is a space inspired by Spanish landscapes and local crafts that continue to shape the brand’s identity.

How LOEWE Celebrates Craft, Collaboration, and Cultural Dialogue

Collaborations are also part of the experience. You’ll find projects with Studio Ghibli, artist Anthea Hamilton, and Kyoto-based ceramicists Suna Fujita. The Castle Room is one of the highlights, where a giant Howl’s Moving Castle bag catches your eye.

In another room, 54 runway looks are placed alongside sculptures and textiles that mirror their shapes and textures. It becomes clear how closely fashion and craft work together under creative director Jonathan Anderson.

You’ll also come across traditional Japanese crafts and stories from artisans like the Onishi family of Kyoto. Their iron tea kettles are still made the same way after four hundred years. The final section, made of five imaginative rooms, offers a more playful ending to this crafted story.

Entry is free with prior booking. This is not just an exhibition but a reminder of how much care and beauty the human hand can hold.
